Professional Background
Richard Mew’s strength is his work ethic. Whether as a Vancouver tax advisor or business consultant to a small corporation, or as the President of a Canadian charity, Richard performs his duties with professionalism and care. His primary focus at Mew and Company, as its founder and one of its Vancouver tax advisors, is tax planning for Canadian corporations and high net worth clients.
Richard’s tax practice is focused on reorganization of privately held Canadian companies, tax free rollovers into Canadian owned corporations, and succession planning for shareholders. He has a successful track record in representing corporations and individuals in dispute resolution with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). Richard has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of British Columbia, articled with PricewaterhouseCoopers in their Toronto office, and obtained his CA designation in 1990.
While at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Richard specialized in auditing financial institutions. In 1991, Richard joined Dresdner Bank of Canada as a controller, responsible for financial reporting, including the reporting of complex financial hedge positions. In 1994, he moved back to Vancouver to work as the controller for Seanix Technology. In 1996, due to his passion for tax work, he decided to form Mew and Company to service small businesses with exceptional tax advice. Richard completed the ICABC In-Depth Tax Course in 1999.
Personal Interests
Richard is a strong supporter of local artists and their work. He is the current president of the Vancouver International Centre for Contemporary Asian Art and supports numerous fund raising functions organized by the local art community. He is also an avid traveler, particularly to the Far East.
